JD Sorting Center

Project Profile
The first phase of JD's outbound / inbound matrix-sorting project covers such functional areas as the unloading area for external order collection/transfer vehicles, the pre-sorting area, the trunk/branch line loading and unloading area (divided into 2 unloading stations and 4 loading areas), the ferry vehicle loading area, and the connecting line from outbound to inbound.
Challenges for the Project
The traditional stair layout is adopted to make the space crowded, the passage narrow, and the forklift difficult to pass. No pulling station leads to low loading efficiency. And the timeliness and accuracy of automatic sorting are not high. There is no recircle line joint at the end of matrix, causing the accumulation or damage to terminal goods.
Solution
The solution includes steel platforms, maintenance platforms and hoisting platforms covering a total area of 8476m2, which greatly improves the space utilization. The express belt conveying line with a total length of 3,690 meters, high-speed diverters, singulator systems and telescopic belt conveyors, greatly improves the overall operation efficiency and sorting accuracy. At the right-angle confluence, 90° curving belt conveyors are butted to ensure the smooth passing of goods and avoid congestion.
Application Effects
The processing capacity of manual inbound/outbound matrix lines is up to 24,000 pcs/h and 66,000 pcs/h during the peak hours, which daily process an average of 672,000 medium and 640,000 small parcels. The system works continuously for 16 hours a day and operates stably, which has effectively helped improve JD’s order performance, and made every effort to ensure the timeliness of parcel express logistics.
